Face #10

Today is my birthday, the house is quiet, it's just me, my dog and two cats. My boyfriend is working till this evening so I get the day to myself. After getting some things out of the way I plan on doing a few faces (including my Valentines couple). I did today's face over the weekend, we were snowed in and had movie marathons all weekend, This face came from one of those marathons.

Face #6, #7,#8 and #9

Snow has descended in the North West and has left me home bound with guests. I've had enough time to start some sketches but nothing  is finished, so the following faces are ones that I did during Christmas time as gifts.

 Faces #6 and #7.My Cousins little boys, Calder and Cohen, done in pencil.

Face #8, my other cousins little girl Savannah, done in pencil.

Face #9, My boyfriends Cousins little girl Anika, done in pencil.

I added an extra face so that I'm ahead and don't feel as much pressure to get something done...

Hopefully I'll get back on track the next few days...

Face #5 There's no place like home...Dorthy from the Wizard of Oz.

With this face I actually took pictures as a did it,  to show my process I guess, it's pretty cool to look back at some of the stages.

Next is the dark spots with my charcoal, I love starting with the shadows first, then growing lighter. 

And my finished face #5. I was having trouble with her hair and just gave up, maybe I should put in the shadowy background, I bet it would help.

I love being able to compare my guide photo with my finished piece, it helps greatly in figuring out how I can improve, like my mouth and nose should of been a little bigger, I wasn't able to capture as much of her emotion as I would have liked because I kept them so small.

Face #3 in honor of Phillip Seymour Hoffman

I was saddened yesterday to hear of the passing of Phillip Seymour Hoffman. He was a wonderful and talented actor and I will miss seeing him in films.

In honor of him I dedicate my third Face to him and I hope I did it justice.

Face #2 Don Cheadle

First off Congratulation Sea Hawks! I am not a big football fan BUT I do love watching the Superbowl (and live games) and I was so excited that my home state got to go to Superbowl let alone win!

Okay, back to art. Face #2 is Don Cheadle and was done in Charcoal.

29 Faces 2014! Face #1

Welcome to a new year! So far 2014 had been busy and exciting for me, hopefully it will continue to do so.

29 Faces helped me out so much last year, I had always doodled on note books and dabbled in watercolors but I had never really taken my art seriously or pursued  it. Last year, thanks to 29 faces, I completed an entire sketch book for the first time in my life. Looking back I can see the progress I've made and it is incredible.  I am pumped for this month of 29 faces and I hope you are too!

Face #1

The old woman

I confess I did her in the beginning of January, but I found her fitting to be face #1 as she was the first piece of art I did in 2014. It took me three days, I was sick with that nasty H1N1 bug and worked on her when the fever died down during the day between naps. At first I though her eyes were off and looking back at the picture I used as a guide I can tell I missed a few details but all in all her eyes are not that off...

I fell in love with her hand the moment I saw this picture, and there is just something about her face that captures me.

This month I'm going to  work on different angles of the face  and details (like eyes). Most of the photos I've saved for a guide are black and white with lots of shadows for me to play with but if I get board or adventurous I'll break out the paints :)
